Courses
Future Rights courses , feed into the ELEVATE Learning Approach and are part of a broader effort to rethink how learning and resources are accessed and shared.
Across the humanitarian and human rights sectors, many grassroots organisations — particularly those led by young people and communities directly affected by crises — face significant barriers to accessing funding. Those closest to the issues are often the ones with the least access to resources.
At Future Rights, we believe that funding and learning should empower, not exclude. As part of this approach, our courses are delivered through a crowdfunding initiative that aims to make practical, relevant learning more accessible while supporting the sustainability of this work.
At the same time, we recognise the increasing funding constraints affecting both grassroots actors and organisations like ours. We are therefore working to navigate these challenges through a solidarity-based, contribution model — balancing accessibility with sustainability and mutual support.
DESEDA 2.0 Modular
Designing Ethical, Safe, and Effective Data Activities: Modules

Overview
In humanitarian emergencies, development, international aid, and field operations, data management has become one of the most strategic elements for ensuring effective decision-making, coordinated interventions, and the protection of affected populations.
Collecting, analysing, and using data in an ethical, safe, and effective way is essential for developing programmes and activities that genuinely respond to community needs while minimizing risks and vulnerabilities.
The original full course DESEDA – Designing Ethical, Safe, and Effective Data Activities course is now evolving into a new modular format designed to provide greater flexibility and accessibility for participants.
The new structure allows participants to attend individual thematic sessions, enabling them to deepen specific aspects of ethical, safe, and effective data management according to their professional interests and learning needs.
The modular structure maintains the practical and operational approach that characterizes the DESEDA course, supporting progressive learning directly applicable to humanitarian, research, and international cooperation contexts.
Through interactive sessions, practical examples, and methodological insights, participants will gain competencies related to:
-
responsible and ethical data management;
-
research methodologies and data collection;
-
design of data collection tools;
-
action-oriented data analysis;
-
information use and sharing for programme development and operational response.
The first two modules focus on the principles, methodological approaches, and operational aspects of data management.
In the coming months, it will be possible to attend additional thematic modules covering advanced aspects of data management, analysis, research design, and operational practices in humanitarian and international contexts.
Why participate
Participating in the DESEDA programme means acquiring practical and methodological tools to understand how to design, collect, manage, analyse, and use data in an ethical, safe, and effective way within humanitarian, development, and applied research contexts. The full programme is designed to strengthen operational and decision-making capacities throughout the entire data management cycle, promoting a responsible and action-oriented approach.
The first two modules also provide an essential foundation for participants wishing to immediately develop competencies in responsible data management and in defining research strategies and methodologies, offering practical tools directly applicable to assessments, monitoring, programme design, and field data collection activities.

The course adopts a solidarity-based and participatory contribution model as a form of self-financing and crowdfunding for future learning activities.
This approach aims to balance accessibility and sustainability, allowing the continued development of contents, modules, and training opportunities open to the professional and academic community, including individuals working across organizations and structures of different sizes — from small local associations and grassroots initiatives to larger NGOs and international organizations — contributing to the creation of a shared, interdisciplinary, and accessible learning space.

DESIGNING ETHICAL, SAFE AND EFFECTIVE DATA ACTIVITIES (DESEDA)
A practical course for Grassroots Organisations and NGOs
This course is about:
-
Planning
-
Designing
-
Implementing
-
Analysing
-
Using data in real situations
In collaboration with Daunia Consulting, it is designed to guide you through the full process of designing a data activity — from the first question to the final use of findings.
Rather than working with abstract examples, you will apply each step to practical scenarios and gradually build your own approach.
Each session introduces key elements, which you will immediately test, adapt, and refine through exercises and discussions.
You will also learn alongside others facing similar challenges, creating space to exchange experiences, compare approaches, and reflect on what works in different contexts.
By the end of this , part time, 36 hours course, over 5 weeks, you will have developed a structured and practical data activity that you can adapt and use in your work.
Watch this space to know when the next edition will up and running, if you wish to have the course tailor made only for your organisation please do reach out at info@futurerights.org
